TPG Mobile App (iOS)
The mobile app for TPG (Transports Publics Genevois) helps ticket inspector to check SMS ticket by scanning the code provided into each SMS.
With the launch of the SMS ticket service by TPG, they wanted to have a mobile app (iOS) for the ticket inspectors they can check SMS ticket validity in public tramway and bus.
We met the chief ticket inspector in order to know the ticket control process and all the constraints. From his experience, he wanted a very clear and simple user interface for the mobile app, especially for the results screen. Constraints for this app was the easiness and rapidity to check the the ticket validity and giving tools to ticket inspector to help them find swindlers (SMS transfer, SMS screenshots, etc.)
We analyzed the user journey of ticket inspector during the control process. In order to simplify and to accelerate the ticket code checking we decided to use the iPhone camera to scan the code inside the SMS. In case scan doesn’t recognize the code we added the possibility to manually enter the code.
We ran through a validation process with the chief ticket inspector all along the development process of the mobile app.
Before the official launch of the SMS service, we ran a user test of the mobile app in bus and tramway with a team of ticket inspector to check the efficiency of the app. The user interface was intuitive enough but the scan process was slow due to a latency time from the camera. We improved it before the official launch.
